Criminal background screening

NUMMY DATE DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS ON ITS MEMBERS.

Nummy Date verifies the identity and age of every member using a government-issued photo ID and a selfie with a liveness check. This is identity verification, not criminal background screening. These are different things and they protect against different risks.

Identity verification tells us that a member is a real adult and that they are the person shown on their ID. It tells us nothing about whether that person has a criminal history, has been convicted of an offense, or is required to register as a sex offender.

A member who has passed our verification may still have a criminal record, including a record of a violent or sexual offense.

Do not treat a verified badge on Nummy Date as an indication that a person is safe. It is not, and it is not intended to be.

Nummy Date provides the following safety awareness information to all members, as required by New Jersey law:

Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also falsify a dating profile.

There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.

Never include your last name, email address, home address, specific workplace, or telephone number in your profile or in your initial communications.

Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information, or who attempts in any way to trick you into revealing it.

If you agree to meet someone in person, always:

  • Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you expect to return
  • Do not have your date pick you up at your home
  • Provide your own transportation to and from the meeting
  • Meet in a public place with plenty of other people around

Nummy Date's design supports the last two requirements directly: members travel independently to a venue we assign, and every venue is a public, staffed location. The first two remain your responsibility.
